Jerry Smith served on the editorial staff of Rider, Cycle Guide, and Motorcyclist magazines before becoming a full-time freelance writer in 1988. Since then he has written for more than a dozen motorcycle magazines and websites and has edited 16 books on a variety of topics. He is former holder of a professional road racing license from the AMA and a member of the Iron Butt Association. These days he brakes much earlier and takes the corners at a more leisurely pace on a bike that's old enough to vote. When he’s not riding he divides his time between amusing Sophie, a four-year-old golden retriever, and writing books, which can be ordered on his website.
