2025 Indian Challenger Elite and Pursuit Elite first look

Apr 22, 2025

Digging deep into its long history, Indian Motorcycles has drawn on a land-speed-record run in 1920 and the production of PowerPlus motorcycles for the U.S. Army in 1916 as inspiration for its two new limited-edition Elite models, which are intended to be the ultimate bagger and the ultimate touring motorcycle.

Both the Indian Challenger Elite and the Indian Pursuit Elite share the same PowerPlus 112 engine, combined braking system, and other components. Naturally, unique and upscale paint jobs are an essential part of the package. Indian is building 350 individually numbered copies of the Challenger Elite and 250 of the Pursuit Elite. Let's see what you get for $40,000 to $45,000.

In addition to being individually numbered, the center console on each Challenger Elite has an image of Gene "Alabama Flash" Walker and the Indian PowerPlus he rode to a land speed record in 1920. An exclusive American limited-edition bagger (by law, I think) has to have a special paint job, and the Challenger starts with a white base with black and red accents on top with the traditional Indian headdress logo over a hand-painted fade.

Indian says the painting process for the Elite models takes 24 hours. The Challenger comes in this White Crystal with Black Candy, Red Candy, and Gloss Black combo. Indian photo.

The PowerPlus 112 engine in the Challenger Elite is unchanged, with its broad plateau of available torque and maximum horsepower of 126 about 1,000 rpm short of the 6,500 rpm redline. So do the three ride modes, inverted fork, and Brembo brake components with linked braking that are found on non-Elite PowerPlus 112-equipped models.

A seven-inch color display, running on Indian's RIDE COMMAND system, sits below the two traditional round dials in the cockpit, which is Indian's way of mixing tradition and technology. Other technology includes Blindspot Warning, Tailgate Warning, and Rear Collision Warning alerts that appear on the display. In addition to lean-angle-sensitive traction control and ABS, the brakes are linked electronically, allowing the system to apportion braking power between the front and rear brakes. Bike Hold Control applies brake pressure when stopped on an incline.

Both the Elite models share the same linked braking system with Brembo calipers, the same Metzeler Cruisetec tires, and the same five-spoke machined cast wheels. Indian photo.

The LED headlight is adaptive, to light your way through turns. The ignition is keyless and luggage can be locked remotely. The windscreen is electrically adjustable and yes, there's cruise control.

Indian says the historical inspiration for the Pursuit Elite was the production of 20,000 PowerPlus models for the U.S. Army in 1916. This new PowerPlus model is anything but Army drab green, however.

The Pursuit Elite carries all the same performance features as the Challenger Elite, with the same PowerPlus 112 engine, brakes, suspension, rider aids, etc. But this Pursuit is about the Pursuit of comfort and luxury, not just for one rider but for a passenger, as well. That means a stitched seat with passenger comfort features many seats not found on a motorcycle don't have.

Passenger comfort part one. An accommodating place to sit is key to any motorcycle with two-up long-distance aspirations. The Pursuit Elite even includes armrests. The seat is also heated, with backlit control switches. Indian photo.

Another upgrade on the Pursuit is the sound system. Both Elite models get Indian's PowerBand Audio system with a dynamic nine-band equalizer that adjusts for ambient noise, but while the Challenger makes do with four 100-watt speakers, the additional mounting options on the Pursuit allow for the placement of six 100-watt speakers.

Passenger comfort, part two. The floorboards for the passenger on the Pursuit Elite are larger than the rider floorboards on some touring motorcycles. Indian photo.

Both Elite models will be arriving in Indian dealerships soon.
