Guy Martin thrives on wild ideas with engines. It’s kind of his thing.
Martin’s father was a truck mechanic and a roadracer, and it wasn’t long before young Guy was following in his footsteps. Fixing trucks by day while racing and building motorcycles after hours turned into a professional motorsports career, with Martin working his way up to British Superbike and Isle of Man TT competition. Audiences outside the world of racing got to know him through his work as a television host and serial world record chaser. Even with his racing credentials, Martin always looks to be having the most fun while trying his more questionable ideas, like building the world’s fastest tractor, hydroplaning a dirt bike across a lake, or attaining the highest-ever top speed during a Wall of Death stunt.
Not many types of motorsport are new to Guy, so sometimes he tries to create his own challenges. Exhibit A: his dirt track chopper, Crazy Horse.
“It’s been the same bikes racing around for the last 40 bloody years, and I like something that’s a bit different,” says Martin. He admits that his Harley-based clodchopper isn’t exactly competitive, but that’s not really the point of the legendary run-what-ya-brung DirtQuake event, where style points and having fun take priority in the unusual classes.
Hey, American Flat Track, are you a little jealous of MotoAmerica's success with King of the Baggers? I'd watch every race in a U.S.-based chopper flat track series. Just sayin'...
