Back in August, I wrote a short article examining the frustrating trend of fake motorcycle restoration videos. They baited clicks by faking everything in an attempt to pull traffic from people who actually put in the work of restoring motorcycles and uploading videos about the process.
Real restoration videos, like the one in this article, are satisfying to watch because the creators put so much care into the process.
This restoration video came across my desk this week, and I’m wondering if the tide is turning against all the fake garbage uploaded over the last few years. At first glance, I wasn’t so sure about this one. The incredibly rusty motorcycle (a Honda model frequently used in fake videos), the gleaming end result, and even the channel’s name (“Live With Creativity”) were a little too close to videos I watched while researching that fake article. But the longer I watched, the more impressed I was by the work done to this poor little commuter.
If you’re interested in how motorcycles are put together or restored, there might not be a better place to start than Honda horizontal single engines like the one in this CD70. Now I’m following Live With Creativity’s new project, a 1962 Vespa rebuild. You can see part one here.
“We deal with the restoration of antique or destroyed vehicles,” the Australia-based channel explains. “We also do a lot of creative work. We believe that creativity is one of the most satisfactory things… [We make our videos] very entertaining for a normal person.”
I guess you shouldn’t be too quick to judge a YouTube video by its thumbnail, huh?
