Seattle Supercross round to be rescheduled due to virus concerns

Mar 12, 2020

The 13th round of the Monster Energy Supercross championship, originally scheduled for CenturyLink Field in Seattle on March 28, has been postponed and will likely be moved to a different location due to government restrictions on large gatherings in parts of the state of Washington to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

While other motorcycle racing events have been canceled, including the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas MotoGP round at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, this is the first cancellation to happen for purely domestic reasons. MotoGP rounds have been rescheduled largely because teams in Italy cannot travel. In the case of the Supercross series, teams have already been competing in the United States since the first weekend of the year, but Washington state is eliminating public gatherings of more than 250 people to slow the spread of the virus.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced the emergency measure Wednesday and Feld Entertainment, the promoter of the Supercross series, shortly thereafter issued an announcement that the Seattle round would be changed.

Fans with tickets to the Seattle round can find information about refunds at the venue web site.

The when, where or if the replacement race will take place remain undecided. Announcements will be posted at the Supercrosslive web site.

Washington has more cases of the COVID-19 disease caused by the coronavirus than any other U.S. state and the restrictions on public gatherings apply to three counties in the state, including the site of the Seattle Supercross round.
