Ever buy a lemon of a motorcycle?
Spurgeon and Zack know I have a reputation for restoring ruined motorcycles, so they invited me to join them for an episode of Highside/Lowside to talk about regrettable motorcycle purchases. I've had plenty of experience with terrible bikes, but personally, I don't think the worst motorcycle purchases have anything to do with resale value, reliability, or style.
"But, Greaser," you say. "Of course you'd say that, since few of your bikes have those qualities." Valid criticism, although my garage is looking better than ever as 2022 draws to a close. The worst motorcycle purchase to me is one you can't afford, and it's a choice I see riders making all the time.
Motorcycles that truly endanger your finances sap the fun from riding, and they can encourage riders to cut corners on other riding expenses like servicing, insurance coverage, protective gear, and even road trip opportunities. Buying more motorcycle than you can afford can even land you in serious trouble with your loan lender or bank, especially if you're mixed up with a predatory lender. Long story short: Ride within your means, and don't take risks you can't afford.
Zack, Spurg, and I talk about a lot more ways to make terrible motorcycle purchases in this full-length podcast. Tell us all about your worst motorcycle purchases in the comments; we'd love to hear about them.
