The circuitry is dual intensity meaning they can be wired to increase in brightness along with your high beams. The optics of the DRL system have been optimized for light concentration instead of throw, so they'll appear insanely bright to another motorist but they aren't going to illuminate the road ahead. DRL lenses are engineered for visibility from straight on, but also from the side, as traffic may approach you from many angles.
