Hotwired Heated Jacket Liner 2.0
When it's cold outside, stay warm and toasty with the version 2.0 of the popular Hotwired Heated Jacket Liner. The Hotwired Jacket Liner generates ample heat while the heating elements themselves are made of barely-detectable microwire to maintain comfort. The Hotwired Heated Liner is pre-wired with prepared plugs at each cuff to accept Hotwired Heated Gloves or Hotwired Heated Glove Liners. Stay toasty my friends.

This jacket is comparable to First Gear's now discontinued product line. However, there are a few differences. Number 1, this jacket doesn't have the same amount of heating elements as the First Gear jackets did. From my experience that doesn't affect the heating and I feel warm all over with no cold spots.
The good news is that First Gear's "Heattroller" was a bulky, confusing, and inconvenient device that was prone to breakage. This product offers a fantastic controller that's digital, with plugs on the jacket that are much better in design than First Gear's offering. Additionally there is not a lot of excess wiring on this jacket which is MUCH appreciated as it reduces the chance of accidentally unplugging your gear while riding.
Overall, while this product seems expensive on the surface, it's ABSOLUTELY worth it to get an extra season or two of riding per year. I have taken this jacket over the Sierra Nevada mountains at 30 degrees and 65 MPH and I was absolutely warm. It literally felt like a nice warm summer day inside of my gear. I found myself repeatedly pulling down my Freezeout mask and leaning into the wind just to confirm it was actually freezing out, as I simply COULD NOT tell.
Buy this jacket and the gloves. For pants, First Gear makes some nice snow pants that work very well at low temps. After some experimentation you'll find a gear combination that works for you. The right combination should give you ABSOLUTE comfort in the lowest of temps with ZERO air leaks.
PROS: Adjustable, Hot
CONS: Skimped On The Elements
PROS: Works Great
I've been riding about a 40 min daily morning commute for a couple of weeks at speeds of 35 MPH to 60 MPH with occasional stops for traffic lights. Temps have been mid 20's f mostly with a couple of days in low 30's. It's cold enough to make my eyes tear up if I push 75 or 80 MPH (I have a cheap full face helmet...no good wind protection). On top, I wear a thermal long sleeve, the heated jacket liner, and heavy duty ballistic nylon (but unlined) MC jacket. I wear Freeze Out thermal bottoms and jeans with wool socks and boots on bottom.
Hands and arms/chest are completely warm and it feels like I could ride all day like this without having to stop and thaw. The temp setting has been on MAX. The controller might be useful if outside temps were maybe in the high 40's or 50's. I don't think it is really needed but mine was free with the purchase of the jacket liner. I also have a heated vest and I don't use the controller for that either. For me, I either need it on and warm as possible or I'll just ride with it off as the liner provides some warmth even when off.
No hot spots anywhere that I can feel. I haven't had a chance to try it out in rain yet, but I usually avoid rain if I can. I wish it had just a little more snugness next to my body like my vest does. My vest is only 2/3 the watt use and feels just as warm. But, my arms are also warm now and my gloves do connect much easier without all that cable routing fiasco.
All in all, it is excellent gear. I'm happy with quality and the price...wish I would have done this years ago.
PROS: Ribbed Knit Cuffs, Connects To Gloves, Sleeves long enough, Cant Feel Wiring, Micro-fleece Lined Collar
PROS: Versitile, Warm, Controlable, Light Weight
CONS: Pricy but worth it
PROS: Warm, Comfortable, Not bulky
As for the jacket it works. Heating is nice and I've only gone as high as medium heat in 30ish degree riding. My commute is roughly ~20 miles each way between traffic and highway speeds and I have been comfortable. I knocked one star off because the waist could use some elastic to keep it closer to the body.
