I live in the Mojave Desert (Central Ca) where the day to night temps differ by as much as 40 degrees and my ride to work is 50 minutes. I do not have heated seats or grips so I am fully exposed. The winter morning temps at 6AM are between 19 & 36 degrees and I travel between 65-75 mph so the wind chill is about 2 degrees or less. My face stays warm and I don't even feel the wind or the cold. It works so well I plan to buy the glove and boot inserts. Better than anything else I have tried and makes most of the other winter gear childs play.
Keeps out the cold wind real good, reduces wind noise too. Fogs everything up if you pull it up over your nose but if you keep it below your nostrils no problems. Bought it in store, works great on frosty mornings to work.
PROS: Keeps out the wind, Keeps face toasty, Reduces wind noise
Velcro seal makes adding and removing neck wrap very easy. I was impressed with amount of wind protection and warmth it added to winter weather gear. Protecting an exposed neck from cold wind adds significant comfort.
Great product for riding when the mornings are cool/cold but the temps aren't cold enoungh for full top. Does excellent job of keeping wind off neck, top of the chest, where cold tends to creep in when riding. Easily stored almost anywhere. Lightweight but very effective barrier.
PROS: Lightweight, Durable, Great Value, Easy To Use, Easy To Carry On Bike, Versatile, Keeps Cold Off Chest, Simple To Wear
I ended up buying the body shield instead because the neck wrap is too small. It claims one size fits most or many but it's actually a very narrow range. For most people it's going to be either too small or too large. If it's too small, you can't wear it at all. If it's too large, it may let wind in.
Just got this the other day and have used it twice so far - very happy with it. Previously, with a scarf I always had cold air blowing down my back. This does a great job of blocking those drafts. It is not bulky at all, yet still blocks the wind well. If you've got a thick neck, this may not work well for you, but it fits me fine - I wear 17.5" necks in my shirts. Since I commute daily, I expect to get a lot of use out of this during the winter months.
I use for daily riding in 40* Fahrenheit weather. Keeps my neck warm and extends far enough down that it doesn't pull out of my shirt. It would be nice if it was a little taller in the neck, bottom of my chin/top of my throat still gets a little chilly...but overall worth the cost.
