like riding on an air conditioned bike
I first didn't believe this cooling vest could work very well, but thought it might help a little bit in sweltering hot weather. I was literally shocked at how cool it kept me. It truly was like riding on an air conditioned bike. I was cool and comfortable in some miserably hot weather (as long as I was moving). It's best to have air flowing through it, so I wear it with my white Bilt mesh jacket. (I don't think it would work as well inside a cloth/fiber jacket.) It did get my shirt wet (I soaked the vest good) but who cares. In that weather, I would otherwise be soaked in sweat anyway. And my 60/40 shirts dry out in 15 minutes. It should work for an hour or so before needing a re-soaking, but a little sprinkle from a water bottle should keep it going for another hour. I'm 70 years old and don't need to show how tough I am. But I do like to show how comfortable I can be in miserable conditions. Now that the air conditioning in my old truck fell apart, I think I'll be using this vest a lot this summer, flying down the road with the windows open. It really is that good.

PROS: Fits Well, Cool, Comfortable

KEEPS YOU COOL! GREAT PURCHASE!
Wore this for the first time here in Seattle when the temps quickly rose above 90 for the first time this year! Wearing this vest made it feel like I was riding in perfect 70 degree weather! And I wore this in highway rush hour traffic! I had poured water on my jacket arms and they were completely dry within 5min but this vest was cool and wet for several hours! Buying one for my wife now!

PROS: Keeps you cool

8 years and still working
I have had this vest for 8 years. It still does the job cooling body temp by 15-20 degrees in triple digit heat. Works especially well in the dry desert heat I ride in. Though it still functions after 8 years, I believe the ability of the lasting cooling effect may of diminished somewhat or maybe in my older age my tolerance for heat has diminished. lol. It seems I remember it holding its cooling effect for one to two hours in 100 degree heat under a mesh jacket and over a t-shirt. It seems now that I need to wet it down about every 30-45 minutes in these conditions. I always carry water with me and even when I re-soaked it with warm water the cooling effect came back. I would like to see it hold the cooling effect long in real world use.

Works. 100°F are no match for this vest
I bought the vest yesterada and I just HAD to try it right away. I made a one hour ride in 100°E, and it kept me cool. Very cool ,actually.
When I arrived back home the water was moved down to the belt line, and when I changed clothes, I my pants and my underpants have been wet at the belt line.

PROS: Feels Like A Freezer

CONS: You Get Wet Underpants

Works very well
I just used this vest on a ride from Santa Fe, NM to Austin, TX (in August). I ride a Honda ST1300 and wore a Fieldsheer mesh jacket with all linings removed. I felt pretty comfortable until the temps started getting up to 97 in NW Texas. At that point I put on the jacket and definitely felt a difference. The temps rose up to a steady 102 to 104 and I actually felt comfortable. I was not bothered by the heat at all.

After a couple of hours in the high temperatures, I felt like wetting the vest down again would help, even though I still felt pretty comfortable. As it turns out, a rain shower in the area cooled the temps down to the mid 80's and the vest was not really necessary any longer.

Before I left, I soaked the vest and stored it in a large ziplock bag until I needed it. That worked out pretty well.

PROS: Low Cost

A lot of cool on a hot day!
Current heat wave over 100f for several days. Dunk this cooling vest in ice water for a few minutes and get 1.5 -2 hours of serious cooling effect to your upper body! Do wear a mesh jacket or vest with this to slow evaporation. Seems to work better when the jacket is zipped up - forcing air thru the mesh and across the wet fabric, making you a 70 mph swamp cooler- but without the clammy feeling. Carry a gallon ziplock bag and refresh the vest with a dunk in ice water mid-day

PROS: Cool Easy To Use

Works well for about 30 mins
I went the vest, wring it out gently, dry with a towel, roll up and place in a ziplock bag & place overnight in refrigerator. When I need it, I open the bag, insert 2 frozen ice packs, zip bag and insert the bag into a foil lined cold storage bag. I place it in the trunk of my bike until needed. If I stop to go into a building, I take it with me in the storage bag so the ice packs don't melt too quickly. When I'm ready to use it, it's nice and cold. The chill lasts for a short, humid ride. I'm sure if my climate were dry it would stay cool longer.

PROS: Feels Good When Very Hot, Easy to use, Comfortable, Fits Well

CONS: Humidity Is Vest's Enemy, Looses Coolness Quickly, Works Best In Dry Climate

BEST USES: Dry climate, Short Ride 20-30 Mins

Great for hot weather riding
A friend recommended this vest for a trip I made through the southwest in July. It provided ~ 1 hour of cool comfortable riding in the desert heat. I would put it in a gallon ziplock bag with water to re-hydrate it at every stop we made. I found that turning up the bottom of the vest extended the cooling time and prevented it from weeping onto my pants. I also wear it when cutting the grass at my house when the temperatures soar in Pennsylvania. After it dries, I put it in the same gallon bag in my bike in case it is needed.

I was skeptical that this would work any better then simply getting my existing riding jacket wet, but it does actually retain water better (Trust me, I've done both)

Specifically, the cooling vest worked really well for an hour @ 100 degrees @ 90 MPH on the Freeway, Under my riding jacket with all the vents open. - It lasts a lot longer as the outside temperature drops.

For that 1 hour it feels super nice. then it just feels better-than-nothing for another hour or so. Some reviews complain that it gets your shirt wet at the waist, ya it does, but who cares? It's 100 degrees outside! and you can avoid a lot of that by really squeezing out the water from the bottom portion (So it has room to catch drippage from up top)

I accidentally lost my first one after 300 miles and made the detour to Cycle Gear again to pick up a replacement. It made my one-day, 760 mile trip really comfortable on a day that would have otherwise felt like I was standing in front of a heater.
