Yamaha R1 Meter Simulator: Get to know your new superbike

Mar 18, 2015

If you're like me, you're a bit of a researcher. I don't buy a helmet, pair of boots, desk chair, or coffee maker without reading a few reviews and doing my homework.

That doesn't always stop once I've ordered something, either. If it's something I'm excited about, the real reading starts after I've clicked "finalize checkout," so I have all the angles figured out once my new goods arrive.

Whether you've already placed your deposit for a new 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 or YZF-R1M or are just thinking about it, Yamaha's new R1 and R1M meter simulators are the perfect tool to either help you get acquainted with your new bike or push you over the edge to place an order.

The simulators give you a view of the handlebars and TFT screen and allow you to control the bike's menu systems using the menu wheel, mode toggle, and pass/lap button. The system is fairly intuitive and I was able to change fuel maps, traction and lift control settings, and create my own custom riding modes, without too much difficulty.

Why do we need a meter simulator if the new electronics package is so intuitive? Because there is literally nothing worse than wasting four minutes figuring it out the first time you start her up when you could already be riding.

Yamaha says the simulator is best experienced on a tablet, but I was only able to use it with my computer, so let us know in the comments how it works on your iPad.
