In my meeting with Editor Lance this morning, I showed him this video of some Gold Wings off-roading, and he immediately said. “I love when people do things with inappropriate motorcycles.” I also love this, and I think you will, too.
An off-roading Gold Wing is about as inappropriate as it gets. Two madmen have gone and outfitted their Gold Wings, “Dos Honduros," for trail riding, then recorded the action for your entertainment. The video here is from the Touratech Rally on the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route, where the bikes took a beating but pulled through.
On the Dos Honduros FaceBook page, rider Kyle Walter explains that they’ve added “Kenda Big Blocks, put [twice] the recommended air in the shocks, swapped out the stock fairings for Windjammers, [added] CB radios, cup holders, trailer hitches, [and] KC lights” to prepare for off-roading. They also have an alternate dirt application for the bikes. Using the trailer hitch, the Dos Honduros can haul a custom truck-cap trailer that also features a dirt bike carrier for a luxurious weekend escape.
As it has long been said, it’s the rider, not the bike.
