Video: More Honda CT125 Hunter Cub details

Jun 08, 2020

Back in April, Common Tread covered the upcoming Honda CT125 Hunter Cub. We figured some of our readers would be all over the CT90’s spiritual successor… We just didn’t know that there would be so many!

Honda clearly got something right with that bike, so we’ve been keeping an eye out for any more CT125 news.

Now, don’t get your hopes up. Honda still has not confirmed the CT125 for the U.S. market. However, Honda Thailand recently dropped an ad for the CT, and it gives a better look at the bike’s design, scale, and intended use.

We learn that the Hunter Cub features 2.75 inches of rear suspension travel and 4.3 inches up front. The high pipe and snorkel intake are throwbacks to the CTs of old. Early CT90s had their airboxes up by the steering tube. That location moved to the left side cover later in production. The latest CT’s snorkel comes up through the left side cover and up to the rear rack. That’s some serious snorkel cred.

As reported previously, CT125 weighs 265 pounds, offers front ABS standard, and sells for about $3,800 in other markets.

Honda Thailand chose young models for their bikes, and while that may suit Thailand, I’d expect an older average owner in the United States. (I’m assuming the bike will arrive here in some form to join the other miniMOTO bikes. I don’t have any inside information.) Of course, the CT line’s success has always relied on its approachability and appeal to many kinds of riders.

Of all the retro-inspired vehicles out there, the CT125 has to be among the purest in its faithfulness to the original. Yeah, it’s missing the classic dual-range transmission, and the components are a little more high-tech these days. The end product is still a chipper little motorcycle with a big seat, a tiny engine, and a “let’s go!” attitude.
