Ducati has given us the first look — and listen — at the electric race bike it's building for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup.
As we reported last year, Ducati is replacing Energica as the supplier of race motorcycles for MotoE next year. Unlike Energica, Ducati doesn’t yet offer production electric motorcycles, so the race machine will provide the first clear look at how Ducati’s electric program is progressing. This sneak peek from Vallelunga shows Ducati’s MotoE test rider Alex de Angelis at the controls of the V21L. de Angelis is one of the most experienced MotoE racers in the world, having started with Octo Pramac MotoE in the 2019 season.
Ducati’s prototype first saw the track at Misano back in December. “Ever since we took the Ducati MotoE prototype to the track for the first time, development work on the project has never stopped, not even for a moment,” said eMobility Director Roberto Canè: “The hard work of the whole team is paying off for the efforts made through continuous progress, which is giving us great satisfaction. In just four months, our prototype has already tackled the curves of some of the main Italian circuits, providing positive responses. There is still a lot of work to do, but the direction is certainly the right one.”
Ducati hasn’t said much about the technical details behind their V21L. From the short video, the motorcycle has a much more conventional appearance than the Desmosedici GP racers use in MotoGP.
MotoE racing continues later this month at Jerez with practice and qualifying on Friday, April 29, and racing April 30 and May 1. See the complete season calendar here.
