Just this morning, Common Tread ran a little article about protecting your motorcycle against theft. The harsh reality is that any bike can be stolen.
But some vehicles just shouldn’t be stolen. Some are too beat for anyone to possibly want them. Others are incredibly famous, impossible to ride in public without drawing attention. And Henry Crew’s Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is both. Or rather, was both. Some lowlife stole the bike from his parent’s house in Petersfield, England.
In case you missed my story on Mr. Crew earlier this year, he’s the currently the youngest person to ride around the world on a motorcycle. And guess which bike he rode?
So now, a thief has the dubious honor of having stolen an absolutely whooped Scrambler with 60,000 hard miles put on it just this year. The bike’s covered in stickers, scratches, dents, and dirt, with a cracked exhaust plate and plenty of other damage consistent with being ridden around the world. I think it’s fair to say that Crew’s bike is one of the worst bikes to steal that I can imagine. I say that with the greatest respect for the machine and its rightful owner.
Good grief.
