Welcome to this week's News Cycles, Common Tread’s roundup of what’s happening on our servers and everywhere else. Every Friday, look for a collection of news, stories, and all things moto from around the web. This week: Super Cubs, ultra capacitors, and Ride to Work Day.
Nearing production: Guzzi’s V85 ADV bike
Remember that Moto Guzzi ADV concept shown at EICMA? New drawings indicate a slightly more realistic production version is on its way. I just hope they keep that ketchup-and-mustard paint job.
Nice revisited: Honda reaches into past, brings new Monkey and Super Cub to U.S.
The long tease is over. Honda’s bringing the lovable little Monkey and the swan-like Super Cub to America. Look for them in dealerships later this year.
Two-stroke rebuild time-lapse
If you don’t already watch them, classic vehicle insurer Hagerty has some sweet restoration videos on their YouTube channel. This week, they’re tearing into a clapped-out 1978 Kawasaki KE100. As always, the whole thing just feels satisfying. It’s also a nice first look inside a two-stroke for the curious.
Possible breakthrough for electric motorcycles
A French startup, Nawa Technologies, is working to bring a “carbon ultra-capacitor” to market. Using cheap, simple materials, the ultra-caps could provide a much-needed boost to conventional lithium batteries. And that’s not all. "We can integrate a battery into any carbon fiber structure," says founder and COO Pascal Boulanger. So maybe some frame that also stores power? Cool stuff, Nawa.
WorldSBK Record: Jonathan Rea posts his 60th win
After his Saturday victory, Jonathan Rea now holds the record for most WSBK race wins. Breaking Carl Fogarty’s 59-win record had to feel good, though crashing out of race two probably didn’t. He's already signed a two-year deal with Kawi, but maybe it's time for MotoGP after that?
CSC introduces its first electric motorcycle, the City Slicker, at $1,995
CSC’s electric Grom alternative is light on range and speed, but offers looks and a price that’s tough to beat. Spurgeon got the full scoop on this tiny ride, intended for city riders with short commutes and a sense of fun.
PSA: Ride to work day
Heads up — Monday, June 18, is Ride to Work Day! If you don’t already ride to the ol’ nine to five, wake up a little early, get that gear on, and support motorcycles and scooters as everyday transportation.
