Join us for a live recording of the Highside/Lowside podcast

Nov 01, 2021

Want to do more than just listen to the Highside/Lowside podcast? Be part of the show! Join us for our first-ever live event as TeamZilla gets together to record the podcast in front of a live audience in Southern California.

You're invited to join us for the recording of the podcast at The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana, California, on November 19. We'll also premiere a new episode of Common Tread XP on the big screen at The Frida Cinema. This episode of CTXP finds Ari and Zack in the wilds of Alaska on very tiny motorcycles, and this is your chance to see it first before it is released on RevZilla’s YouTube channel the following morning.

Taking the dive into live

For the last two seasons, Zack and I have co-hosted the podcast from our respective studios on opposite coasts. It would be a big shift even to get back together in the same room, let alone in a room full of audience members. But from the moment the idea of a live version of the show was suggested, it was appealing.

Over the past year, we’ve expanded our social media presence on Instagram to include a "Live Happy Hour" on Wednesday evenings. This is a chance for our audience to speak directly with our video hosts and writers in a one-on-one setting. And each host tackles the concept differently.

Jen Dunstan makes an effort to introduce folks to a new location in her local riding community, Ari Henning tends to provide mechanical tips from his garage, and Brandon can usually be found surrounded by bikes, on a trail, or a trip. For myself, I opt to address the audience from the comfort of my living room with a cocktail in hand and a new record spinning in the background as we talk about all things motorcycle-related.

For this inaugural Live episode of Highside/Lowside, we'll all be together. Zack and I will be joined on the stage at The Frida Cinema by Ari, Brandon and Jen for an entire evening of motorcycle conversation and debate. We intentionally timed the live show to correspond with the IMS Outdoors event at the OC Fair & Event Center nearby in Costa Mesa.

Spurgeon, Zack and Jen on the podcast
Spurgeon and Zack have been joined on previous episodes of the podcast by other members of the ZLA team, including Jen. But for the first time, at the live recording, all the RevZilla media hosts will be together on stage and taking part in the discussion. RevZilla illustration.

So if you reside in the Southern California area or you're coming by for IMS, join us at our live event. You can purchase tickets at RevZilla’s Eventbrite Page. Seating will be limited and tickets are $10, with all proceeds going to local charity, so make sure to get your seats early! RevZilla will also foot the bill for an open concession stand for the entirety of the evening. So go crazy on the popcorn and Milk Duds.

One important note, if you’re considering joining us for the evening, is that this will be a recorded event. There is a chance you could show up on the video, so just make sure you’re OK with that before buying a ticket.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with a meet-and-greet hour leading up to the debut of CTXP: Alaska at 6 p.m. HS/LS Live recording begins at 7 p.m., so make sure you arrive prior to the start of the show.

If you can’t make it in person, do not fear, the recording will air on YouTube and all of your favorite podcasting apps. And if all goes well, there will be additional opportunities for live recordings in different locations around the United States in 2022.

This live recording is a big step forward for our production crew, which, up until this point, has consisted of Zack and myself, along with our producer Chase Kubasiak and our editor Bernie Sweeney. For the most part, what you hear on the podcast is what we said, the way we blurted it out. Bernie’s role in this isn’t so much to edit things out, but to add things in, like audio EQ, B-roll footage, transitional elements and sponsorship advertisements. Still, it has always been a bit of comfort for me and Zack to know that the team has our backs, should we say anything too egregious. (This is more of a problem for me than it is for Zachary.) We won't have that luxury at the live event.

But what could go wrong, right?

The podcast has evolved a lot over the past few years and while we feel quite good about where we are compared to where we were, we’re not ones to stagnate for too long. Introducing a live audience component to the program is something we’ve been excited (if not a bit nervous) to try for a while.

We’re looking forward to the opportunity to see as many of you as possible, in person, on November 19.
