Ducati has finally taken the wraps off its long-teased, much anticipated Scrambler, and it's air-cooled!
After numerous leaked images and a website launching all sorts of color commentary on what to expect, we finally get a good look at the new Ducati Scrambler. Many believed it would be powered by the same 821cc motor used in the Hypermotard and Monster, but I'm very pleased to say it will get the 803cc air-cooled motor from the previous Monster 796, which we know makes 75 horsepower and 50 foot-pounds of torque.
The Scrambler uses a twin-spar steel trellis frame and a die-cast aluminum swingarm, and 10-spoke alloy wheels — an 18-inch up front and 17 in the back. The semi-floating and radially mounted Brembo brakes clamp a single disc and two-channel ABS comes standard. The Kayaba suspension is a 41mm inverted fork up front and monoshock in back, which are adjustable for spring preload.
Ducati is claiming a 375-pound dry weight and a 31-inch seat height, which should make this new Scrambler feel very light between your legs. Ducati says there is even some hidden storage under the seat, complete with a USB charger. As we've all seen in the teasers and leaked photos, the Scrambler gets a pretty snazzy LED light setup.
While it's a little disappointing to see the Scrambler not get a very scrambler-esque exhaust, I like this bike aesthetically much more than I thought I would. Ducati is releasing the bike in four trims: Icon, Urban Enduro, Classic, and Full Throttle. Each gets a different color scheme and differently styled seats or front mudguards, and the Full Throttle version comes with a Termignoni exhaust. Pricing will start at $8,595.
To be honest, I'm already a huge fan, and this is one of the bikes I think I'm the most excited to see so far. It's going to take me a long time to decide whether I want the Urban Enduro, Classic, or Full Throttle version.
