The return on investment (ROI) for a motorcycle is rarely monetary. What we get back is typically the enjoyment of riding, the satisfaction of completing a bucket-list trip or mastering a challenging trail, or simply having more fun and burning less gas while getting to work.
Yes, a motorcycle is virtually always a (sometimes rapidly) depreciating asset. As noted by this episode's expert guest, co-owner of Iconic Motorbike Auctions and occasional Common Tread contributor Abhi Eswarappa, very few motorcycles ever sell used for more than what they sold for new, and meanwhile you're paying for maintenance and, if you're riding them, insurance and registration. But there are exceptions. What if you picked up a heavily discounted Ducati Sport Classic back when those retro sporty bikes were languishing on dealer floors before retros became a thing? Today, it might be worth double what you paid.
See some other examples of motorcycles that bucked the trend and held their value on this episode of Highside/Lowside.
