Another batch of inexpensive motorcycles

Aug 04, 2019

Everybody loves a deal.

So in that spirit, it’s time for another batch of motorcycles that are surprisingly affordable. If I think they're not that bad, they're probably priced just right. I think everything is too much money. Have you seen the price of cheese? Jesus wept.

On to the motorcycles.

Street
Street 750. Harley-Davidson photo.

2017 Harley-Davidson Street 750 in Wisconsin for $4,955

I was not kind to the original incarnation of this motorcycle when we tested it, mostly because it was the mediocre-est bike I had ridden in a while. But at this price, the Street 750 becomes way more compelling, no? Kind of like a poor man’s SV650.

Geedub

2015 Suzuki GW250F in Illinois for $2,599

You can go buy this as a track bike for under three grand and still probably have money left for better tires. I would imagine a Gixxer fork swap is probably not very taxing. On the other hand, at this price, I would pretty much tell a new rider to skip a used bike and just buy this. It has a warranty, people! This thing is two model years newer than the last GeeDub I wrote about, and it's four hundred bones cheaper...nearly a year later.

NC700X

2015 Honda NC700X in Wisconsin for $3,987

This rivals that Street for sheer bang for the buck. A mid-size motorcycle for entry-level money. That’s a strong deal in my book. Will this bore you to tears? Probably. Is it very fast for a 700? No. Will it get you to a bunch of places and make the act of getting to those places so incredibly certain and reliable that you spend most of your time thinking about anything but breakdowns? Assuredly.

RC390

2015 KTM RC390 Cup in California for $4,999

This motorcycle, I think, is the best deal on the list (for a very specific buyer.) The RC390 Cups were turnkey factory race machines. They retailed for something like ten grand. This is a new, prepped race machine for five thousand bucks. Adjustable suspension, R&G crash kit, an Akra pipe, no ABS, upgraded front brake, adjustable levers… all for less than the standard RC’s MSRP.

America

2015 Triumph America in California for $5,999

These motorcycles have never sold well, and the prices reflect that. A middleweight European-branded cruiser for six grand? Someone will snap this up, and rightfully so. Slap bags and a windshield on it and you can create your own Triumph light tourer for a song.

Interceptor

2014 Honda Interceptor in Texas for $6,999

I personally have never even investigated owning a new Interceptor, simply because the prices are out to lunch. I suppose the idea of VTEC kicking in (yo) in the middle of a corner maybe had something to do with my lack of enthusiasm as well, but for seven grand, I could probably find a way to live with that.

CRF450R

2014 Honda CRF450R in New York for $5,180

This is the equivalent of a dirt Blackbird: a little outdated, but undeniably still very potent. I guess there is probably limited demand for MX bikes on Long Island, which probably explains why you can nab this off-road rocket for chump change. Shit, this is basically where this dealer would price a used one.

Don't dilly-dally; prices fall 'til buyers are found, and you can't imagine these will fall much further!
