For over a month, Husqvarna hid the Svartpilen 801 prototype behind a veil of mystery and a logo-littered livery. Yesterday, the brand finally presented the 2024 Svartpilen 801 in full detail, announcing the model’s specifications, pricing, and availability.
KTM’s Swedish subsidiary introduced the original Vitpilen and Svartpilen at EICMA 2014. The response to the two concepts was so positive that Husky released the Vitpilen 701 production model in 2018. Its flat track-inspired sibling, the Svartpilen 701, debuted just one year later.
Things are far different in 2024. While Husqvarna still offers both the Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401, the Svartpilen 801 is now the lone middleweight “arrow” in the firm’s naked bike quiver. The company touts the 801 as offering a blend of “performance, agility, and contemporary scrambler-inspired design.” Let’s dive into the details that make it so.
Something borrowed, something new
At the core of the 801 lies the same 799 cc parallel twin that powers KTM’s 790 Duke. In the Svartpilen, the engine maintains its 105-horsepower rating as well as its 64.2 foot-pounds of torque. A bi-directional quickshifter (Easy Shift) enables riders to climb through the gears without letting off the throttle, while a Power Assist Slipper Clutch (PASC) system prioritizes traction under hard braking and acceleration.
Just like its orange-clad relative, the Svart opts for a chromium-molybdenum tubular steel frame to house its engine. The model’s WP APEX suspension offers adjustability at both ends and the road-biased 17-inch wheelset comes wrapped in scrambler-styled Pirelli MT60 RS tires. Maybe most importantly (for safety, anyway), braking duties fall to Husky-branded J.Juan calipers mated to 300 mm discs up front and a 240 mm rotor in the rear.
The 801’s electronics package also features rider aids often found on KTM’s Duke series. That includes three ride modes (Street, Rain, Sport), lean-dependent Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), cornering ABS, and Supermoto ABS (disengages rear ABS). Riders interface with the systems through a full-color five-inch TFT display.
Customers can further expand the Svartpilen's tech suite with Husqvarna’s optional Dynamic Pack. The add-on bundle features a Dynamic ride mode, 10 levels of Motor Slip Regulation (MSR), five levels of anti-wheelie, and cruise control.
Those hoping to fully personalize their Svartpilen 801 can also turn to Husky’s Technical Accessories for additional performance and cosmetic mods. The brand’s Functional Street Collection even offers gear and apparel to match the 801’s futuristic and urban aesthetic.
While Husqvarna finally revealed the full details behind the 2024 Svartpilen 801, fans will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the new model. The first units will be available at dealers in April 2024 with a starting price of $10,899.
