At last, Husqvarna releases their flagship ADV: the Norden 901.
After trotting out an adventure concept back in 2019, Husky officially announced that a production version of the Norden 901 was on its way. Norden news was thin on the ground until a few months ago, when teaser videos and a few key details were revealed. Now we have our first look at the official production version, its spec sheet, and its price tag. The base 2022 Norden 901 rings in at $13,999, and it remains closely based on the KTM 890 Adventure line.
Engine, chassis, and suspension
The Norden shares its 889 cc parallel twin with its sister models from KTM. This engine is rated for 105 horsepower and 73 foot-pounds of torque. Street, Rain, and Offroad modes come standard, with an optional “Explorer” mode for “direct control over the various functions [with a reconfigured] display.”
With a five-gallon tank, Husky says their new adventurer will have a range of just under 250 miles per fillup. Service intervals are every 9,300 miles. The six-speed transmission gets a quickshifter (“Easy Shift,” in Husqvarnese), plus a Power Assist Slipper Clutch (PASC) to mitigate rear wheel slip.
A chromoly steel frame cradles the counterbalanced p-twin. The steel trellis subframe, intended to carry a passenger and luggage if needed, connects at the rear.
As expected, Husqvarna uses adjustable WP APEX suspension at both ends. Husky notes that the Norden’s rear shock angle reduces seat height to 33.6 inches in the low position. The suspension’s front and rear travel numbers — 8.6 inches and 8.5 inches, respectively— didn’t suffer much for the lowering.
Wheels and brakes
The Norden gets tubeless spoked wheels shod in Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires from the factory. Of course, they’re using a proper 21/18-inch wheelset on these bikes. Maybe a more street-oriented version will show up down the line to continue developing their street line.
J.Juan brakes feature a suite of stopping aids like switchable Bosch Cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, and off-road-oriented modes for riders who want to hit the trail.
Style and technology
The Norden doesn’t look like its orange cousins, but the changes aren’t just for aesthetic purposes. The large LED headlight is “integral to the Norden’s aerodynamic efficiency” with a plastic cover that fits neatly into the windscreen. Fog lights, equipped as standard, also tuck into the bodywork.
On the other side of the cockpit, the Norden wears a five-inch TFT display, a shift light, and a 12V socket. There’s an optional “Connectivity Unit” that adds navigation, smartphone pairing, and music control via the Ride Husqvarna Motorcycles app.
Cruise control is standard equipment on all Nordens. Add-ons include Touratech luggage, a lowering kit, heated grips and seat pads, TPMS, Akrapovič slip-ons, and a taller windscreen.
The Norden will be available at your Husqvarna dealership this month.
