I got tired of having to wear sun glasses under my clear face shield so I got the dark smoke type. Great face shield, very easy to put on and take off, which is great, since I can easily swap it with a clear shield when riding back home from work at night. It may be ok for riding at night with well lit roads, but I wouldn't recommend it.
I got the chrome mirror faceshield for my RF-1100 Hadron because it looked so cool in the store. The Shoei design makes it easy to snap on. Like the other reviewer said, no longer need sunglasses since it really cuts the sun's glare and UV's and even when I ride to work before dawn I have very good visibility. I actually dropped it on concrete and it didn't scratch. bugs, stone hits, no scratches. Can easily snap the clear one back on but haven't done it since this one is so much better.
PROS: Really is scratch proof, Hides your ugly face, Can be worn at night too, Totally cool look, Cuts glare
My commute in ATL often starts in the dark, so I use my clear shield. I switch to the Dark Smoke shield on the way home. I got a 'shield belt' that works great for swapping these shields. Dark Smoke shield acceptable in the morning twilight (as it's getting brighter). Bright sun in ATL is no longer an issue and I like being incognito with the 'black out' effect.
I bought the RF-1100 when it first came out here on cycle gear I loved the helmet but it fogged up bad. I am in the Navy and live in Japan. I bought the 1/2 tint visor before cycle gear had it. The only thing I would recommend is getting the pinlock version with anti fog inserts. Shoie had it at a bike expo here. I'm not even 100% sure it is available in the US. with the insert I have never had an issue with forging. I ride year round above 100F to below freezing. With the tunnels and late hours at work the 1/2 tint is the best of both worlds if it's dark and you have trouble seeing all you have too do is tilt your head and look through the bottom half of the visor and the other way around for sun and bright lights.
Great replacement for OEM clear face shield. Nice smoke tint good for sunny days. Quick replacement mechanism. Fits snug. Makes sunny days at the track bearable when you're sight is on the apex. It's quiet profile and wind protection in comparison to Arai. I own and raced with both.
PROS: Good Visibility, Quick Replace
BEST USES: Everyday Rides, Racing, Passenger, Protection, Poor Weather
My face shield was scratched all over so I replaced it with the top-tinted one. It was super easy to snap on and was just what I needed. I probably will only have to wear sunglasses on the brightest days. I used it on a recent night ride and it worked fine.
