Scorpion EXO-AT950 Neocon Helmet
Scorpion has redefined a segment, melding the best features of touring helmets with the versatility of an off-road lid. Scorpion EXO-AT950 Neocon Helmet is the all-in-one swiss army knife of the helmet world. The modular chin bar allows you to relieve your claustrophobia or ask for directions while the off-road style peak and large eye port deflects roost, blocks the sun and allows you to wear goggles when tearing up the trails. Additional features such as a Everclear anti-fog faceshield and Speedview drop-down internal sun visor keeps your vision clear and ready for whatever is around the next corner. If you're going to be hitting the highway, the peak visor is easily removed to give you an aerodynamic profile so you can bug out at speed. Eyeglass compatible cheek pads and a KwikWick II liner ensures total comfort.

It runs a bit small. I typically wear an Shoei XL and ordered an XXL and it fits perfectly.
For an inexpensive helmet, the visor is actually pretty clear. It's not Shoei quality, but it's close; there's very little distortion. My Sena bluetooth installed easily and fits perfectly.
For a modular, it's fairly quiet, although I recommend rising with earplugs.
I'd give it 5 stars if the optics were perfect, but all in all, this is a wonderful helmet and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Downsides, that tall eye port lets a lot of sun light in and the peak does not shadow the sides of eye port well but this is typical of most peaks. I use a motorcycle helmet specific tint strip applied to shield along top edge to address this issue without blocking visibility. This also helps cut down heat gain here in the desert. Also the bottom of chin guard is very close to bottom of my chin such that the chin wind guard rubs slightly under my chin.
I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a single helmet solution for all their riding needs. Would buy again.
I have seen a claimed weight of 3.77 lbs on this helmet. My food scale says it is 4.1 with the peak....so not a light weight lid by any means.
Many reviews around the Web said the Scorpion runs small so order a size up. I hate guessing but my local CG did not stock them so I ordered the XL even though I wear a Lg in most helmets. When I got the helmet and put it on it fit perfectly..... as in I had been wearing it for a while. This worries me because helmet padding breaks in. I fear it may get a bit loose over the long run, but I could not get myself to send it back for a Lg only to find the new helmet was too tight. Did I mention buying helmets over the Internet is a gamble. Oh well, I wanted to ride so I kept the XL.
I did a 160 mile trip out to the desert from North San Diego County. The temps were up into the 90s. Because of this I loved the drop down eye shield. Riding at speed with it down and the face shield up was comfortable.... until you turn your head to the side....then there is significant drag. I dropped the shield and got the same effect. It is probably the peak, so for dedicated road riding I will take it off.
There were reviewers who complained about venting. I was riding on a hot day and felt the helmet vented pretty well.
The Scorpion seemed average as far as noise goes. It is definitely quieter than my Suomy street helmet.I wore no earplugs on this ride and was not uncomfortable.
The flowers were having a once in a decade bloom in the desert so there were traffic delays on the one lane roads for miles. Since it was 90+ degrees the modular design of the Scorpion became a real plus. As we were riding by the stopped traffic at 20 mph I flipped up the faceplate increasing airflow a bunch and was still able to leave the eye shield down. Now I would never ride like that normally, but in hot traffic situations it is a real nice feature.
In the end I am giving the Scorpion a three star rating for a couple of reasons. First is the weight. I know most ADV Bike riders never see more than a smooth dirt road. That is not the case with me. I did not hit the dirt in the Scorpion this ride because I had a passenger, but my last ride was cross desert including about 6 miles of sand whoops. I think the 4+ pound Scorpion would get a bit old in real off road conditions....the "bobblehead effect"....a pain in the neck.
Second is the "sail effect" when you look side to side. It starts at 50mph. I don't think I should have to take the peak off at sub 70 mph speeds. Given the fact my XL may become a bit loose overtime makes the problem even more significant.
In the end...although I may eat this purchase and buy a ADV helmet more suitable for real dirt riding I think the average street heavy dirt light ADV Bike riders (BMW GS) will like it.
Note to CG....you should stock all helmets you sell in brick an mortar stores so customers who shop there can buy a helmet that fits.
